PENS therapy® ADVANTAGE

Patients with chronic neuropathic pain often fail to benefit from conventional pharmacological treatments, and have limited options for pain relief. PENS therapy is a form of neuromodulation intended for the management of chronic neuropathic pain, which involves delivering electrical current directly to the peripheral nerve responsible for the pain. Since chronic pain can lead to a reorganisation in the central nervous system, it is conceivable that a reduction in pain can be achieved in the periphery, rather than the spinal cord.

Patients with hyperalgesia and allodynia are particularly difficult to manage.
PENS therapy is a minimally invasive method for managing these patients as the painful area can be precisely targeted without producing new surgical scars, which may not heal properly.

PENS therapy is a useful alternative to neuropathic pain medications and opioids, avoiding tolerance and physical dependence which is associated with long-term use. The sedation and gastrointestinal side effects often experienced with conventional analgesics are also avoided with PENS therapy.

The NeuroStimulator PENS therapy® II system is intended for the management of chronic peripheral neuropathic pain, using peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS) in the stimulation of named peripheral nerves, and peripheral nerve field stimulation (PNFS) in the stimulation of the most peripheral branches of peripheral nerves. Indications include but are not limited to the following:

PNS
• Occipital neuralgia
• Cluster headache
• Supra-orbital neuralgia
• Trigeminal neuralgia
• Intractable facial pain
• Post hernia repair pain
• CRPS

PNFS
• Discrete areas of allodynia & hyperalgesia

PROBES PENS therapy®

PENS therapy Probes are disposable and intended for single use to reduce the potential for transmission of infectious diseases, eliminate the cost of sterilization and the potential damage and risks associated with repeat autoclaving.
